Timber Calculator

Timber decking calculator

Estimate the linear metres of decking you need from your deck area, or estimate how much area a quantity of boards will cover.

Calculator mode
Area to linear metres

Enter your measurements and select Calculate to see an estimate.

How this is calculated

Cover width (m) = (board width + gap) ÷ 1000

Linear metres required = area ÷ cover width

Linear metres with wastage = linear metres × (1 + wastage ÷ 100)

Boards required = round up (linear metres with wastage ÷ board length)

Total linear metres supplied = boards required × board length

Reverse: estimated coverage area = linear metres × cover width

Estimates only. Confirm final quantities against your measured plans and the product's actual cover width before ordering.

Common questions

How accurate is the calculator?

The calculator gives an estimate based on the board width, gap and wastage figures you enter. Always confirm final quantities against your measured plans and the product's actual cover width before ordering.

What is a linear metre?

A linear metre (LM) is a length measurement used to sell decking and structural timber, independent of board width. See our LM and m² guide for a full explanation.

Can it use product-specific board data?

Yes. As catalogue products go live, board dimensions can prefill the calculator automatically.
