Peninsula Blonde is our affordable 140x19 hardwood decking: a full 140 mm wide board with the warmth and character of real timber, sold by the lineal metre at a rate that suits larger decks and tighter budgets.

Peninsula Blonde is the name we supply this hardwood decking timber under. It reaches us from Indonesia, where it is known in the trade as Indonesian Blonde. It is a 140x19 mm board, sold by the lineal metre in random lengths.

Feature Grade, and what we mean by it

We classify this line as Feature Grade. That is Sydney Timber Supply's own commercial classification of the material we supply. It is not a formal industry grade and not a grade published by our supplier, so please do not read it as one. It describes decking with visible natural character rather than a uniform, furniture-like face.

Expect colour and tone to vary

Each plank, and each pack, can contain natural differences in colour and tone, running from pale blonde and honey through tan to deeper brown. This is a normal characteristic of the timber, not a fault, and it is the main thing to understand before you buy. Allow for it when you set out: open more than one pack and mix boards across the deck as you lay them, rather than working straight through a bundle at a time.

Random length hardwood decking

This is random length hardwood decking. You order the total lineal metres your job needs and we supply boards to make up that quantity, rather than a chosen set of lengths. The current length mix is subject to availability, so if your deck depends on particular lengths, confirm what we are holding before you order.

Buying this decking

  • Priced and sold per lineal metre.
  • Supplied in random lengths, current mix subject to availability.
  • Limited stock: this is a genuine limited run, not a standing line.
  • Add your lineal metres to the cart, or request a quote for pack and project volumes.

Not sure how many lineal metres you need? Our timber calculator converts deck area into lineal metres. Full dimensions and supplier data are in the specification sheet on this page.

Calculating for: 140x19 Peninsula Blonde Hardwood Decking

Calculator mode
Area to linear metres

Supplied in random lengths, so there is no length to choose: order the total linear metres you need.

Enter your measurements and select Calculate to see an estimate.

How this is calculated

Cover width (m) = (board width + gap) ÷ 1000

Linear metres required = area ÷ cover width

Linear metres with wastage = linear metres × (1 + wastage ÷ 100)

Reverse: estimated coverage area = linear metres × cover width

Estimates only. Confirm final quantities against your measured plans and the product's actual cover width before ordering.

Guidance

Working with this timber

Technical profile

From the supplier specification sheet: density 680 to 1130 kg/m3, Class 2 above-ground natural durability, strength group SD1 seasoned, fine and even texture with a slightly interlocked grain, and shrinkage of approximately 6% tangential and 3% radial. Colour is published as honey, running from yellow through to dark brown and darkening with exposure; sapwood is yellow and does not darken appreciably. The supplier states no slip resistance in the pre-oiled condition, so apply a slip resistant finish where required.

How Sydney Timber Supply supplies it: kiln dried, in random lengths, ordered by total linear metres. Preferred individual lengths can be requested by quote and are confirmed against current supplier availability.

Applications

Decking, fencing and gates.

Installation

  • Store boards flat, fully supported and off the ground, and keep them dry before installation. Allow the timber to acclimatise at the site before fixing.
  • Our supplier specifies a maximum joist spacing of 450 mm centres and a minimum ground clearance of 400 mm. Additional side and top ventilation is required where clearance is less than 400 mm, or where the sub-floor lacks drainage or cross-flow ventilation.
  • Our supplier specifies a minimum 7 mm gap between boards for 140 x 19 mm decking, a minimum 7 mm from any side or end to fixed structures, and a minimum 12 mm from the side edge and from the end for fixings.
  • Fix with hot dipped galvanised or stainless steel screws, two per joist, pre-drilled and countersunk. Stainless steel fixings are recommended for coastal or poolside work.
  • Our supplier recommends tungsten carbide tipped cutting tools and quality drill bits. Seal cut ends with decking oil. Wear appropriate eye, ear and breathing protection when cutting.

Maintenance

  • Clean the surface before coating; an oxalic acid based timber cleaner removes dirt, grease and tannin stains.
  • Finish with a penetrating decking oil per the coating manufacturer's label, then re-coat on a regular cycle suited to exposure and traffic.
  • Monitor the coated timber for colour loss and dryness, and re-coat when it begins to look dry to maintain protection.
