135x35 mm Spotted Gum is the heavy-duty board in our Spotted Gum decking family, supplied for commercial decks, wider joist spacings and high-load structures that call for substantially more section depth than the standard 19 mm profile while keeping the species' distinctive grain and colour. A 140x35 mm board is available at the same linear-metre rate; choose the width in the buy box.

Sold as QLD Class 1 Hardwood: the supplier specification sheet publishes Class 1 above-ground natural durability with a 40+ year service expectation. Spotted Gum is grown along the NSW and Queensland coast, with pale gold to warm brown colouring and the darker gum-vein flecking the species is named for. As a specialist profile it is less commonly shelf-stocked than the 19 mm boards, so availability and lead time are confirmed with our supplier at quote stage.

Technical profile

From the supplier specification sheet: Spotted Gum covers Corymbia citriodora, C. henryi and C. maculata. It carries a High seasoned strength rating (SD2) with density of 990 to 1180 kg/m3, is termite resistant, and is rated Class 1 above-ground durability with a 40+ year service expectation.

Applications

Decking, screening, cladding, flooring and exterior architectural work.

Installation

Store boards flat, fully supported and off the ground, and keep them dry before installation. Allow the timber to acclimatise at the site before fixing.
Fix with hot dipped galvanised or stainless steel screws, two per joist, pre-drilled and countersunk. Stainless steel fixings are recommended for coastal or poolside work.
Maintain ventilation gaps between boards and adequate ground clearance so the deck can dry out; the supplier installation guidelines under Documents and downloads set out clearances in detail.
Use sharp, quality cutting tools and seal cut ends with decking oil. Wear appropriate eye, ear and breathing protection when cutting.

Maintenance

Clean the surface before coating; an oxalic acid based timber cleaner removes dirt, grease and tannin stains.
Finish with a penetrating decking oil per the coating manufacturer's label, then re-coat on a regular cycle suited to exposure and traffic.
Monitor the coated timber for colour loss and dryness, and re-coat when it begins to look dry to maintain protection.
