Merbau is an imported hardwood: it is not Australian grown and is not part of our Class 1 Australian hardwood range. Like all Merbau, it can release tannins in its first months in service, so manage runoff near light paving or render.

Installation
  • Store boards flat, fully supported and off the ground, and keep them dry before installation. Allow the timber to acclimatise at the site before fixing.
  • Fixing and board spacing for 190 mm wide boards must follow the supplier's or manufacturer's installation instructions for this profile. We do not yet hold those instructions for this width.
  • Manage tannin runoff near light-coloured paving or render during the first months in service.
  • Use sharp, quality cutting tools and seal cut ends with decking oil. Wear appropriate eye, ear and breathing protection when cutting.

Maintenance
  • Clean the surface before coating; an oxalic acid based timber cleaner removes dirt, grease and tannin stains.
  • Finish with a penetrating decking oil per the coating manufacturer's label, then re-coat on a regular cycle suited to exposure and traffic.
  • Monitor the coated timber for colour loss and dryness, and re-coat when it begins to look dry to maintain protection.
