Pre-oiled decking is supplied with a coat of oil already applied. Our 135 x 19 Pre-oiled Spotted Gum is listed by our supplier as Spotted Gum oiled decking, Standard & Better grade, in random lengths, and we sell it per linear metre. Our documents do not yet name the oil used, and we do not yet hold a durability class or installation instructions specific to this pre-oiled product. Ask us before you plan coatings or spacing around it.

Why the factory coat still needs a plan
WoodSolutions' Domestic Timber Deck Design guide makes three points that matter for a pre-oiled board:
- Penetrating finishes suit decking. Oils and stains that soak into the surface cope with foot traffic better than film-forming finishes.
- Every surface, including fresh cuts. As a minimum, a protective finish should be applied to all surfaces, including any freshly cut ends, preferably before fixing. Cuts you make on site expose uncoated timber.
- Recoat with the same finish, or check first. When resealing, use the sealer or stain originally applied; where a different finish is used, check with its manufacturer, because mixing products may prevent the new coat from adhering.
That last point is the reason to ask us which oil is on the boards before your first maintenance coat. If we cannot confirm it, a coating manufacturer can advise on testing compatibility.
Spacing and fixing
Because we do not hold installation instructions for this product, the product page says so, and our calculator flags that its spacing is not verified. The calculator's 4 mm starting gap is a calculation assumption, not installation advice; use the gap in the instructions you are given or the one your installer specifies.
FAQ
Does pre-oiled mean I never need to oil the deck?
No. A factory coat is a starting finish. Exposed decks need ongoing maintenance, and cut ends need sealing when you cut them.
Is pre-oiled Spotted Gum more durable than uncoated Spotted Gum?
We do not hold a durability class for this pre-oiled product, so we make no comparison.
Can I choose lengths?
It is supplied in random lengths. Preferred lengths can be requested by quote.
