This listing brings together the hardwood decking and screening boards we supply, in the species and sizes actually available rather than as a general species catalogue. Provenance, durability and grade are stated on every individual product page.

The Australian hardwoods

Ironbark, Spotted Gum, Forest Red Gum and Blackbutt each carry supplier documented Class 1 above ground durability, backed by the specification sheet on the product page. Forest Red Gum is sold in the market as QLD Reds; the species name in our product titles is Forest Red Gum.

  • Ironbark, at 86 x 19, 135 x 19 and 135 x 35 mm.
  • Spotted Gum, at 86 x 19, 135 x 19 and 135 x 35 mm.
  • Forest Red Gum, at 86 x 19, 135 x 19 and 135 x 35 mm.
  • Blackbutt, at 86 x 19, 135 x 21 and 140 x 35 mm.
  • Gympie Messmate, a Queensland native at 86 x 19, 135 x 19 and 135 x 35 mm. A durability classification is not currently published for it, so it is listed here on its measured properties rather than on a class rating.

The lines that are not Australian hardwood

Three decking lines in this listing sit outside the Australian range. Merbau is imported and supplier listed as Class 2, in 90 x 19, 140 x 19, 90 x 42 and 140 x 45 mm. Peninsula Blonde is imported from Indonesia and adds a second 140 x 19 mm option, supplied in random lengths with natural colour variation. Jambu Mixed is supplier documented at Class 2, with origin confirmed at quote. Each product page states its own provenance and durability.

Thicker sections, and the 140 x 35 question

Ironbark, Spotted Gum, Forest Red Gum and Gympie Messmate are supplied at 135 x 35 mm, and each of those carries a 140 x 35 mm width option at the same rate. Blackbutt is different: its thick board is an actual 140 x 35 mm product. Merbau 140 x 45 mm is a 45 mm section and is not a substitute for a 140 x 35 mm board, so check thickness as well as width.

Reading the durability rating

Class 1 and Class 2 are supplier documented natural durability ratings for decay resistance, stated for above ground use. Indicative service life ranges are classifications, not product warranties, and durability, strength and hardness are three separate properties. For the distinction before you choose a species, see hardwood durability classes and Class 1 vs Class 2 hardwood.
