86x19 mm Forest Red Gum is a narrower decking board suited to smaller deck runs, step treads and matching screening work where the warm red-brown tone of the timber is the feature. Our supplier's Forest Red Gum (Eucalyptus tereticornis) is sold in the market as QLD Reds. We state the species exactly so you know precisely what you are buying.

The supplier specification sheet publishes Class 1 above-ground durability with a 40+ year service expectation. Boards in this size are consistently supplied as a square edge profile, and colour is a warm mid-to-deep red-brown that develops further with age and weathering.

Sold per linear metre in random lengths. Preferred lengths, packs and bulk quantities are quoted against current supplier availability: add your linear metres to the cart, or request a quote for project volumes.

Looking for 90x19 decking? This board measures 86 mm across the face, not 90 mm. Laid with the standard 4 mm gap it covers 90 mm of deck per board, which is why the two sizes need different linear metre quantities for the same area. Technical profile

From the supplier specification sheet: Forest Red Gum (Eucalyptus tereticornis) carries a Medium High seasoned strength rating (SD4) with Janka hardness 11.3 (Very Hard) and density of 1000 to 1170 kg/m3. The species is BAL 12.5 to 19 rated under AS 3959-2009, termite resistant, and rated Class 1 above-ground durability with a 40+ year service expectation.

Applications

Decking, screening, step treads and architectural finishes inside and out.

Installation

Store boards flat, fully supported and off the ground, and keep them dry before installation. Allow the timber to acclimatise at the site before fixing.
Fix with hot dipped galvanised or stainless steel screws, two per joist, pre-drilled and countersunk. Stainless steel fixings are recommended for coastal or poolside work.
Maintain ventilation gaps between boards and adequate ground clearance so the deck can dry out; the supplier installation guidelines under Documents and downloads set out clearances in detail.
Use sharp, quality cutting tools and seal cut ends with decking oil. Wear appropriate eye, ear and breathing protection when cutting.

Maintenance

Clean the surface before coating; an oxalic acid based timber cleaner removes dirt, grease and tannin stains.
Finish with a penetrating decking oil per the coating manufacturer's label, then re-coat on a regular cycle suited to exposure and traffic.
Monitor the coated timber for colour loss and dryness, and re-coat when it begins to look dry to maintain protection.
